There are a few things that big names skip out on that would make a bait just a little better. For example, in order to get a bait with even paint blending and that looks good. Your looking at a 25+ price tag. Unless you can find one for less, there will be another problem like clear coat thickness or durability. With Lou’s though, his clear coat is TOP OF THE LINE. It‘s very glossy, very thick, and durable. Also, unlike some companies. He uses quality Mustad hooks, and not to mention you could always just change them if they rust or dull. All-in-all, nothing is better than hand-painted detail, USA brand, and a company that listens to it’s customers. Lou is always changing and fine tuning his baits to make them better and better, with experience and on-water testing.

Northern pike are known as a predatory fish, this is a fish that has an attitude, no fear, and a big reputation of being an all around aggressive fish! I start my season with stick baits (floating or suspending) in that 7 to 8-inch size that look like a perch or baby pike. Large males and females coming off spawn are very territorial towards each other and an innocent 8-inch baby pike is an easy meal that hardly ever gets turned down. I want these stick baits to barely move with a very subtle and boring action. As the water warms up late may early June here in Michigan. I start using baits with more action Larger swimbaits and spinner baits are a go-to this time of year. The water is generally clearing up after spring run offs and the natural appearance of a swim bait gets the job done, and the flash of the spinner bait will get them all the time.

Everyone has them. We swear no one knows about them. But to us it is a sanctuary we can call our own just for the time we get to spend there when there is no other fishermen around. It’s a time to hone in on our skills and correct some mistakes without any interruption. These spots are sacred to us and we want to believe no one else knows it’s here. Maybe! But chances are they have been discovered at some point by some angler on a mission. I hit one of my honey holes today to test out the new jerkbait I just painted and I am pleased to say it produced. Second bass of the season for me come in one of my own!
