Overwhelmed with destroyed tackle after last season? Here are some quick tips that will help you get organized and geared up for fishing season. Don't wait until the last minute, get your rods, reels, and lures in order before the bite starts and you're left at the dock. Getting your tackle organized is a huge job. If you have multiple anglers in your household, fish as a co-angler, or fish a variety of species tackle prep and organization can seem like a never ending task. Getting ahead of the problems, keeping your gear fresh, and eliminating rust in your tackle, will save you headaches later. The first thing to look at nice waterproof boxes, the boxes that I recommend is the flambeau boxes keep water out which therefore keeps rust off of all of your lures.

Approaching new bodies of water, either for a tournament or just for a fishing trip. Can be very challenging. Before you even get packed up and ready leave. Always check to see if there are any tips about that body of water online or at local shops in that area.

Next, get navionics on your phone, or use your fishfinder GPS depth/contour maps to just look around for structure. Like underwater points, rocks, weed lines, stump fields, or steep transitions; preparing that you could do in the days/weeks before you leave. Then, when you come to the lake. You want to be fully prepared for what you’re going to see. So have a few different lures tied on that you think you are going to use. These might include: spinner baits, squarebills, jerkbaits, and some type of finesse style bait. But BE prepared to change tactics and colors based on the conditions. Finally, hit spots that you think will be good for that time of the day. For example, don’t try out a spot you think will be good for a top water bite at 2:00 in the afternoon. That’s it! If you do these steps, you should be well prepared to approach almost any body of water in your area.

I been fishing for just about 35 years and have been fortunate enough to be able to fish a few different ways. I have 2 - 16 foot jet boats, one with a 20hp tiller motor and the other with a 40hp console. Also have a Vibe 130 Sea Ghost which is the greatest kayak ever for big guys. Float trips for the day in the summer down the Delaware river on the kayaks would be the best. Using trucks at the pick up and drop off points and flowing down stream for miles and miles. and then there is nothing like running your jet boat up river through huge rapids and sometimes even 6" of water at top speed. Sometimes just cruising and graphing the lake for off shore structure and taking it easy on on of the two awesome lakes we have here in my local area. No matter what you are fishing from, make the best of it, have fun and learn something new. #gethooked #lousluresandjetboattours
